Air Preparation Filters

An air preparation filter is a crucial component in your plant air system, whether you’re supplying air to fifty bays in an automotive dealership or you just want to be able to run a few air sanders in a small fabrication shop.

For many plant air installations, it is not an adequate approach to only dry the air at the compressor station. Compressed air still must travel through hundreds of feet of feed lines to get to each tool station, and along the way, it can attract moisture and other contaminants.

The tools you’re running on your air system don’t simply need pressurized air; they need clean and dry pressurized air.

To that end, it’s best to over-spec your air preparation filtration capabilities at every point where a tool is connected to plant air.

And if you’re in the medical, food, or paint industries, it’s even more crucial that your air preparation filtration is above minimum standards. Most industrial applications require filtration down to about 40 microns, but for medical, food, and paint booth applications, the standard is 5 microns for filtration of volatile aerosols and vapors.

It’s not just contaminants that must be filtered out of the supply — water must also be separated. There are three different types of systems for this crucial step:

  • Manual valves
  • Semi-automatic (check valve)
  • Automatic (float-bowl style)

Add to this the further requirement that plant air pressure and volume must be adequate for the specified operating range of the tools in question, and you’ve got a tall order to fill for air preparation filtration.

Wilson Company can supply whatever filter you need to keep your plant air pure and safe for every tool in every industry.
